The grade 2/3 class did a novel study on the award winning novel “The Hatchet”. Mr Charlie read the book to the class and the students did projects such as developing their own comic strips. Friday they wrapped up the study by working as a team with a local expert to build their own shelter and learn survival skills. They made hot chocolate over a fire and reflected on the story and the main character Brian. Great wrap up of a unit integrating language arts with science, outdoor education, team building and community connections.
