Parent Information

Absences and Parent Handbook

Notification for any student absence must be reported to the office by phone or email. Parents can also send a SeeSaw message to their child's classroom teacher, however this is not the appropriate way to give the school notice of an absence.

If a student will be away for an extended absence (example, a family vacation), please use the following Extended Absence Reporting Form to give us the dates and confirm the reason for this absence:  Extended Absence Form

The Parent Handbook for both School Age and Childcare families outlines many important policies regarding parent, child and KIS procedures and responsibilities. It is the responsibility of all parents to familiarize themselves with this handbook. KIS Admin welcomes any questions about the information therein. Click the links below to view the handbooks.

Parent Support Group (PSG)

The Parent Support Group (PSG) is a vital resource for KIS and an integral part of the school’s fundraising plan and ability to maintain low tuition fees. The PSG is being revitalized for the 2025/26 school year and has taken on more of a community liaison and event planning role. While helping to build community is a valuable role the PSG will be focusing on large fundraising events that utilize the application for gaming licenses and bring in larger amounts of funds in the coming years.

If you want to join the PSG as a member at large or volunteering for upcoming events in a planning capacity, please contact frontoffice@kis.ca with your expression of interest.

The more the merrier!

The PSG Executive for 2025/26:

The PSG meets monthly to discuss and plan for upcoming events. Your attendance and input is welcome!

KIS Parent Volunteer Program

Volunteer hours from the families and friends in our school community are an important part of KIS. They allow us to provide students with opportunities to engage in activities such as field trips, Flex Friday and special events that we would not be able to provide otherwise. Volunteer contributions also a key part of fundraising efforts. KIS staff and admin deeply appreciate the extra time and effort put into our school through the volunteer community!

How it Works:

The minimum volunteer requirement is 20 hours PER FAMILY, per school year.

  • Volunteer opportunities are posted on the bulletin board outside the office and on our online Sign Up form at the button above.

  • The online sign up link will be sent out in every newsletter with updates to volunteer opportunities. No account is needed to sign up online.

  • Teachers may also reach out via email and Seesaw regarding specific classroom volunteer opportunities.

  • All adults volunteering for activities taking place within the school or in the presence of students off property must have a valid criminal record check completed and on file with the Office. There is no cost to volunteers for this record check. Please contact the office for details and to complete a records check.

  • There is no cost to volunteers for this record check. Please contact the office for details.

  • If you have a particular skill set such as an IT background, construction, landscaping, painting or a Class 4 driver’s license that you feel might be useful to the school please speak with the office staff.

  • Joining the Parent Support Group (PSG) is a great way to participate in fundraising events and receive credited hours for volunteering. Please contact the office for more information on the PSG.

How to Record Volunteer Hours:

PARENTS AND GUARDIANS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR RECORDING ALL VOLUNTEER HOURS IN THE VOLUNTEER LOG BOOK OUTSIDE THE OFFICE!

  • The Volunteer Log binder will be located outside the office. Please find your child’s last name and fill in your hours after they are completed. Families with multiple children enrolled at KIS will have a single family sheet for logging in hours.

  • KIS staff are not be responsible for logging your volunteer hours or verifying that they have been recorded.

  • An update on volunteer hour logged in the binder will be sent out to families in April so that if you do intend to complete the 20 hours, you will have the last two months to do so. The deadline to complete your volunteer hours is June 1, 2026.
